Repair Café of the Peninsula runs entirely on the generosity of people who give their time, skills, and enthusiasm. Whether you fix electronics or design flyers, there's a place for you.

Arrive at the venue a little before doors open. We'll do a quick volunteer briefing, get everyone set up at their stations, and walk through the flow for the day.
Your role is coach, not contractor. Visitors bring the items; you bring the knowledge. Guide them through the repair hands-on so they leave having actually done it themselves.
Between repairs there's food, drinks, and great conversation. Repair Cafés are genuinely fun; you'll meet interesting people and leave with a real sense of accomplishment.
These are the hands-on repair disciplines we need covered. Your job is to guide visitors through fixing their own items, not to fix things for them.
Electricians, hobbyists, tinkerers, makers: if you can diagnose a circuit or wield a soldering iron, we need you most. You'll sit with visitors and help them understand what's wrong with their lamps, fans, radios, chargers, and more, then guide them through the fix step by step.
Ideal background: electronics repair, electrical engineering, hobbyist maker, appliance repair experience.
Whether you're a professional tailor or just very comfortable with a needle and thread, you'll help visitors work through torn seams, missing buttons, and frayed hems. Bringing your own portable sewing machine is a big help but not required.
Ideal background: tailoring, seamstress/seamster work, home sewing, costume design, textile arts.
Wobbly chairs, broken hinges, stuck drawers, loose joints: you'll guide visitors through stabilizing, reattaching, and restoring furniture they care about. Guiding someone through bringing a beloved piece of furniture back to life with their own hands is one of the most rewarding repairs.
Ideal background: woodworking, carpentry, furniture restoration, general handyperson skills.
The catch-all role. Broken toys, chipped mugs, cracked ceramics, broken necklaces, loose clasps, household odds and ends — anything that needs a steady hand, a creative problem-solver, or just someone willing to give it a go.
Ideal background: general handyperson, maker, tinkerer, ceramics, kintsugi, jewelry making or repair, fine craft work.
A Repair Café needs more than repair experts. These roles keep the event running smoothly and the visitors feeling welcomed.
The first face visitors see when they walk in the door. You'll greet people warmly, help them fill out a waiver and intake form describing their item, and point them in the right direction. A calm, friendly presence goes a long way in making the event feel welcoming to first-timers.
Repair Cafés are social events, and refreshments are a big part of that. You'll help set up and manage a drinks and snacks table, keep it stocked throughout the event, and help create the relaxed café atmosphere that makes these events feel different from a repair shop. Bakers especially welcome.
Help manage the overall event flow. Keep an eye on wait times, route visitors to the right repair stations, troubleshoot logistics on the fly, and make sure volunteers have what they need. Think of it as air traffic control for a busy repair room.
Help us capture the spirit of the event: candid shots of repairs in progress, the community atmosphere, and the moment someone's item comes back to life. These photos will be invaluable for promoting future events and showing the community what we're all about.
Before we can fix anything, people need to know we exist. We need creative and community-minded folks to help get the word out across the Peninsula.
Help us build a visual identity for RCP. Creaete event flyers, social media graphics, and anything else we need to promote events. We're a scrappy grassroots org so we lean heavily on volunteers for this. If you have an eye for design and want to leave your mark on what RCP looks like, this is the role for you.
Ideal background: graphic design, illustration, branding, visual communication. Familiarity with Canva, Figma, Illustrator, or similar tools helpful.
Old-fashioned but effective: getting physical flyers up in coffee shops, libraries, laundromats, community centers, grocery store bulletin boards, and anywhere else people gather across the Peninsula. If you're out and about in your neighborhood and willing to carry a stack of flyers, this is incredibly valuable.
Ideal background: strong local knowledge and a willingness to walk, bike, run, skate, or jog around your community.
Help RCP build a presence on Instagram, Nextdoor, Facebook community groups, and other local channels. This could mean creating content, writing posts, engaging with comments, or simply sharing our posts in community groups you're already part of. Consistent, authentic social presence is how we reach people who've never heard of us.
Ideal background: social media management, content creation, community management, or just being very online.
Know people at local libraries, schools, community centers, faith organizations, or neighborhood associations? Help us build relationships with groups that can host future events, share our announcements, or connect us with potential volunteers and visitors. This kind of grassroots networking is how we grow.
Ideal background: people well-connected in their local community or comfortable making introductions.
